A Retrospective of my Bespoke Dressmaking 2009-2020 – Dresses of dreams

by | Aug 14, 2020

Having recently been reminded of one of a prom dress I made for a client back in 2015, through being shown an old school magazine with the dress being worn by the cover star. I thought it would be kinda fun to share with you a bit of a retrospective of some of the more creative dresses I have made for clients over the years.

This is the magazine cover that started the idea for this post.

Over the years I have made many dresses to customer’s own specifications and this one was inspired by an episode of Doctor Who.

I made a couple of dresses for the same customer for Ledger Week at Doncaster Races. One military inspired and the other made from a beautifully embellished sari.

I’ve created a few made to measure wedding dresses over the years. These are two of my favourites. Jude in 2009 and Karen in 2018.

This was something completely different – an outfit for a Jane Austen Festival in Bath. I made the purple & floral costumer on the left.

And another one that was created as a festival dress – made by me and tie dyed by the client. I love how it turned out.

I have enjoyed working creatively and collaboratively with my clients over the years to create the dress of their visions that couldn’t be bought off the rack and is made to measure not just their body, but their tastes and dreams too.

I don’t get to do very many made to measure dresses any more, but when that special dream dress project comes along, sometimes it just has to be realised!
