Happy Dress – Who needs a dress like this?

by | Dec 21, 2020

I made my Happy Dress to help raise my spirits during the run up to Christmas. This year has been so strange and I wasn’t feeling Christmassy at all with less than a week to go until the big day.

Happy Dress Fabric

I realised that by changing my own outlook could increase my Christmas cheer and what better way than making a brand new happy dress in this amazing psychedelic fabric from Economy Fabrics near Chesterfield. (Thanks to Jo, for spotting this fabric for me!)

Happy Dress Pattern

I already had the Friday Pattern Company Adrianna Dress pattern printed out and I’d started to cut the pattern out when I did the Sew Every Day in Lockdown 2 Challenge. Friday Pattern Co class this as an Beginner Level pattern, so I knew it would be a quick and easy sew for me. It is a pull on dress with no fastenings required.

What better way to raise your spirits that a colourful Christmas Day dress, with plenty of space to eat my way through the festivities without feeling an uncomfortable restraint from my clothes.

Styling the dress

I will style this with some matching coloured tights and a pair of sparkly platform heels for that perfect retro 60’s/70’s Austin Powers Vibe. Groovy Baby!

After Christmas I envisage wearing my happy dress with a roll neck long sleeve tee underneath and leggings or jeans and boots.

And when summer comes I might even brave bare legs with my favourite wooden soled leather platform Swedish Hasbeens!

Making a dress that will only be worn once goes against my fast fashion principles, and although I won’t be wearing this dress every day, I will get lots of wear out of it especially as it will make me smile every time I wear it!

Have you made yourself a Christmas Day dress this year? What dress have you made?
