If you have lost your sew-jo, (that’s sewing mojo) then sometimes the best thing you can do is take a break to find your sew-jo again.
I’ve just come back from a full week off work. Probably the first full week off since the pandemic began. We managed a few days away in the lovely Cotswolds and it was lovely.
Before I was running on empty. Feeling distinctly uninspired. I’ve come back brighter and fresher and zinging with new ideas and projects that I just can’t wait to get started on.
Your mind and body need time and to rest and reenergise to reach your full potential and feel your best.
I know that for a lot of my students sewing is their self-care. Their happy place. How they relax and unwind. And sewing is perfect for that.
But what happens when sewing no longer hits the spot? And you’ve lost your sew-jo?
I’m going to be a little controversial here and say that you need to take a break from sewing!
Sewing should be a pleasure, something you look forward to doing and that brings you joy. When that doesn’t happen, then the best thing you can do is take a sewing break.
Tidy away your sewing space and pack away any unfinished projects and then don’t think about sewing for a while. That can be a few hours, days, weeks or months. However long it takes to find your sew-jo.
Eventually you’ll be itching to pick up the sewing machine again and my advice would always be to pick a project that you know you’ll love. Something that won’t push you too far out of your comfort zone. Try something that’ll be a quick win and after your break you’ll soon be sewing with joy again.
