Sew Along November 2020 – Pipe Dream Patterns – The Tara Basic – Part 1 – Gathering Supplies

by | Oct 24, 2020

This post is all about gathering supplies in preparation to start the Sew Along in the 1st week of November.

The pattern can be ordered here: https://www.pipedreampatterns.co.uk/ Β

For Β£1.50 discount per pattern ordered use the code: Β bagladybird

There are 6 options for the Tara BasicΒ

  • High rolled cowl collar in a dress, sweater or bodysuit
  • Round scoop neck in a dress, sweater or bodysuit

I’m going to be making the scoop neck bodysuit.

Fabric suggestions:

Most jersey weights, knit, pontes, stretch velvets, elastane/lycra blends and fabrics with similar qualities.

  • Fabric must have at least 2 way stretch for the sweater and dress options
  • Fabric for bodysuits must have 4 way stretch due to the negative ease in pattern running length and width directions.
  • For the roll collar a lighter weight jersey will cowl and hang, whereas a heavier weight jersey will create a cosy neck warmer. The fabric you choose will make a difference to the finished look/feel of the garment.

Fabric requirements (60″ or 150cm wide):

  • Body Version 1 – Roll collar – 2m
  • Body Version 2 – Round neck – 1.6m
  • Dress Version 1 – Roll collar – 2.1m
  • Dress Version 2 – Round neck – 1.75m
  • Sweater Version 1 – Roll collar – 1.7m
  • Sweater Version 2 – Round neck – 1.4m

Other Supplies:

  • Pack 1cm wide clear elastic (all versions) you can use ribbon, twill tape or selvedge instead
  • Pack 1cm wide knicker elastic (bodysuit only) you can use scalloped edge elastic for easier placement
  • 3 x Sew on or Kam snap jersey snap fasteners (bodysuit only)
  • Twill/ribbon for crotch placket (bodysuit only)

I’ll go through sizing in detail in part 2.
