Sew Along? What’s it all about?

by | Jan 25, 2021

One of our main focus each month in the Membership Club is a Sew Along Video Series available to Linen and Silk level members. These Sew Alongs are then saved in a library for members to refer back to, revisit or make when the time is right for you.

You might have seen a little bit about my online Learn to Sew Membership Club and wonder what it’s all about…

The Membership Club has been up and running for over 6 months and here’s a snap short at the Sew Alongs over the last 6 months.

Pattydoo – Lynn or Tony Hoodie – February 2021 – coming soon

The Hoodie is at the “Gathering Supplies” stage, so if you’re a current member you can begin to gather the fabric etc that you will need to start the Sew Along at the beginning of February.

I’ve previously made the Tony Hoodie a couple of times for my partner, Gary. So this time I’m making one just for me from this beautiful floral & butterfly French terry fabric.

Made my Wardrobe – Zahra Jumper – January 2021

This is a perfect lockdown jumper; cosy and warm. I’ve worn mine a lot since I finished it. This a brilliant starter project if it’s your first time sewing with knit/jersey/sweatshirt fabrics.

I show you how to assemble a PDF pattern too.

Pressing tools – Tailors Ham & Seam Roll – December 2020

After putting it to the vote, my members opted for something non-clothing this month. December is a really hectic month for a lot of people. So sewing for themselves can be way down their list of priorities.

Sew Along - Pressing tools

So during December, those who wished to join in made their own pressing tools to help get more professionally pressed garments.

Pipe Dreams Patterns – The Tara Basic – November 2020

This is a lovely wardrobe basic pattern that can be made as a bodysuit, a top or a dress.

Sew Along - T|ara Basic bodysuit

I show you how to put it all together for each of the options, sewing a jersey neckband and attaching snaps.

Closet Core Patterns – Carolyn Pajamas Sew Along – October 2020

This pattern is the ultimate in luxury nightwear. Personally, I have never owned such luxurious pajamas.

This is a perfect Sew Along to make as a gift for your loved ones. A wonderful Christmas or Mother’s Day gift. The fabric choice can make this quirky and fun or classic and elegant.

I made mine in a beautiful William Morris print cotton lawn fabric from Fabrics for All, with a contrasting green piping. I had my buttons made by The Button Coverer, especially covered in my fabric.

You will learn about pattern matching French seams, piping and more.

Paper Theory – Zadie Jumpsuit Sew Along – September 2020

We love this relaxed wrap jumpsuit from Paper Theory.

In the Sew Along you will learn how to cut out and sew up this jumpsuit as well as finishing the wrap edge with bias binding. And how to adjust for a different sized top and bottom.

Made my Wardrobe – Josie Bra & Pants Sew Along – August 2020

This was the first ever Sew Along in the Membership Club.

For a lot of the members this was their first time sewing any kind of lingerie. I demonstrated in detail how to sew the different types of elastic techniques illustrated in the instructions.  I also showed, in depth, about construction techniques as well as cutting out lace and jersey.

There are a few different combinations of jersey and lace that you can make in this pattern. The pants are my absolute favourite, they are so comfy. I have made myself a few more pairs since this sew along. And the bra is ideal for lockdown when you want that freedom from wearing a structured/underwired bra.

All these sew alongs are available for Linen or Silk Members to access as long as they are current members. New Members will also be able to access any of the past Sew Alongs or other content such as video tutorials instantly as soon as they sign up.
