Sewing Update & Challenges!

by | Mar 21, 2022

Sewing update & challenges… Earlier in the year I wrote about my Spring Sewing plans. You can read the original post here.

Well, as usual, nothing has gone according to plan!

Sew Alongs

Of course I’ve made the Sew Along projects for the Love & Stitches Club.

  • January – Jennifer Lauren Handmade Esme Top
  • February – Friday Pattern Co Ilford Jacket
  • March – Sew Me Something Iris Top

And now I’m working on the upcoming Sew Alongs.

Closet Core Pauline Dress – Wearable Toile

I’ve just completed the wearable toile of the Closet Core Pauline Dress and I love it. I can’t wait to wear it! And of course make it in my other gorgeous summery fabrics.

It wasn’t an easy pattern to make. There are a lot of pattern pieces and I forgot to cut some out. The instructions are a little complicated as they keep jumping between the different versions.

I did alter the shape of the skirt, because I feel restricted in a straighter shaped skirt. So I decided to make it more of a flared skirt shape which works really well for me.

I also had lots of breaks in between sewing sessions of this project so I lost my flow with it many times. But I’ve not been as pleased with a finished make for a while!

Papercut Patterns Solar Tee

One of the reasons I was stop/starting with this project was that a couple of other patterns caught my eye. The first one was the Papercut Patterns Solar Tee.

Sewing update & challenges - Solar tee

I already had the rust coloured organic cotton Lycra and I wanted a comfy casual tee with a little bit of added detail. I enjoyed sewing this one up. It was a quick make. I even used a new stitch on my machine to hem this.

Getting Dressed Up!

The other thing that jumped the queue was due to an opportunity to dress up for the first time since Covid hit! Gary and I went to see the Dita Von Teese Glamonatrix Tour in Manchester last week and I just had to create something fabulous to wear. I decided to make the Victory Patterns Madeleine Skirt in a black faux leather with green highlights.

This make threw up a few challenges, mainly because pinning through the fabric would leave permanent holes. And the fact that it was plastic meant that I couldn’t press the seams. But I enjoyed the challenge and I’m pleased with the result.

I’m so excited for my next Pauline Dresses, hopefully now I’ve made the pattern once the next ones will come together much more quickly!

What are you sewing at the minute? Let me know in the comments.
