Spring Sewing Planning 2021 – Dressing to the Max

by | Mar 29, 2021

The long dark winter has come to an end. The clocks went forward at the weekend, which means that the evenings are lighter longer. And the UK is having a mini 2 day heatwave! My thoughts immediately turn to my Spring Sewing Planning.

After months of living in secret pyjamas and work from home comfort, I’m itching to get into β€œproper” clothes again. I’ve been drawn to the maximalism of brands like La Double J. With the big bold prints, patterns and colours and striking shapes.

I’ve already made myself a few vibrant high volume garments.

I’ve written about my Adrianna Dress here, I call it my Happy Dress.

I love swishing round in these Phoebe Flares they are so awesome. I feel like I should be on the French Riviera or somewhere else equally as glamourous. I’m already planning more of these, probably with the bib extension to make them into dungarees. I just need to find the right fabric for that.

I’ve got a few loud, colourful and patterned fabrics in my stash already, so I just need to figure out some pattern pairings to help create my spring wardrobe.

Spring Sewing Planning

I bought this lovely viola print cotton to make a dress for a wedding last year. Unfortunately the wedding was postponed, but I still plan to make the dress. The Colette Penny Dress will be a perfect addition to my spring/summer wardrobe especially when I get back to teaching in person lessons.

Spring Sewing Planning abstract crepe

I think that this crepe fabric with the graphic motifs is destined to be a Friday Pattern Co Wilder Gown. This feels perfect for me right now, Having resisted all the big voluminous tiered dresses before. It will need to have to add a lining or create an underdress as the fabric is quite sheer. I’m hoping for a lovely summer to get the chance to wear this dress.

african wax fabric

This African wax print cotton is calling to me. But I haven’t got a pattern in mind yet. Do you have any suggestions? Let me know in the comments below if you do.
