Waltons Fabric in Goldthorpe

by | Sep 6, 2021

Waltons Fabric is in Goldthorpe which is between Doncaster, Barnsley and Rotherham. It is easily accessed from the A1 if you are travelling from further afield. And without a doubt it is worth the journey. There is usually free parking on the street outside the shop.

Their address is: Waltons Fabric, 47-49 Doncaster Road, Goldthorpe, Rotherham, South Yorkshire, S63 9HJ

Find Waltons on Facebook here.

It is one of my favourite fabric shops in the local area. This little gem is real treasure in amongst the boarded up shop fronts in Goldthorpe.

Waltons used to have a stall on Doncaster market and the shop still has a very market feel to it. The fabrics are floor to ceiling, with rolls stacked in every available space. If you ever get invited to have a look around upstairs, then you must. There are hundreds and thousands more rolls of fabric up there.

Dancewear fabrics are a major focus here filling two thirds of the right hand side of the shop. But if creating dancewear is not your thing, (It isn’t mine!) there is still plenty of fabric for regular dressmaking.

There is heaps of jersey and knitted fabrics, dress and blouse fabrics, linens and linen blends, cotton and polycotton, as well as satins, sequins and laces.

The Waltons Fabrics team

Keith Walton is like the Delboy Trotter of the fabric world. Always wheeling and dealing to bring South Yorkshire the best value fabrics you will find. He is a real character and will happily spend half an hour (or more) telling you about all the bargains that he has got for you and where they came from.

The shop is now run by Keith’s daughter Jayne, and a team of lovely staff. But you will still see Mr Walton in there from time to time.

A lot of the fabric is deadstock fabrics from big retail chains, so you will often find fabrics that you might recognise from the high street. Previously there have been Jaeger, Topshop, Karen Millen to name a few.

You might find Waltons a little overwhelming if it’s your first visit. Don’t go if you don’t have much time. Allow yourself time to browse and take in the atmosphere. It can get busy in there too.

Sometimes you will find exactly what you are looking for, other times you will come away with bags and bags of fabric.

Fabrics are on average Β£4/Β£5 a metre. Prepare to be spoiled for shopping anywhere else.
